Lil man and I were at Wal-Mart today and I spotted a monkey lying in the floor of the electronics department and told Lil' Man so he could pick it up and move it out if the way of traffic.
Lil' Man fell instantly in love with it and wanted it. I said no and he started pouting but I gave in an told him if we scanned it and was under $5 I would get it.
We went to the nearest scanner and I couldn't find a tag. I did notice however it was from The Children's Place. It was some kids lost stuffie.
Lil' Man asked me since it was abandoned if he could have it. Normally my answer would be no but I fell in love with the poor sad and lonely monkey. I decided to let him walk around with it in the cart while we finished our shopping. I told him if the owner comes looking for it he'd have to give it back.
Not even two minutes later the dad came looking for the monkey. I gave Lil' Man the "you know what you have to do" stare and he gave the monkey to the father.
Lil' Man started bawling just as the man turned to leave. He learned a hard lesson today but it is definitely one he needed to learn.
Doing right is never wrong but no one says it would always be easy.
What lessons have your kids learned recently?
