Once upon a time there was a girl who dreamed of a owning a home of her very own.
Never did she imagine that she would purchase a home again after her divorce but she did. Sadly, this is where the fairy tale ends. (My 5 Lil' Man year old just typed all of the text above).
The house hunting began back in February and after about 25+ houses and many offers falling through for reasons that range from mold, asbestos, major plumbing issues, structure issues (one house had a rolling kitchen floor) and the heartbreaking one where I was outbid by $2,000. Finally, one worked out for me. Lil' Man, J and I move in the middle of August.
My new home is a three bedroom bungalow with a wood burning fireplace, attached two car garage and a huge basement with a ton of storage. Not to mention the almost 1/2 acre of land (good luck trying to find that in the City), plus we have and a huge tree in the yard that will be home to a tire swing for Lil' Man.
There are only a few downfalls. One being that it is on well and septic. Two, the master bedroom may be a bit too cosy with our King size bed in there, the room is 9' x 10' but we will make it work. We are only in there to sleep. Right? Three, the bathroom does not have a soaker tub but that is a cosmetic thing that can be changed.
I am very excited to paint my rooms, as well as set up my new office and FINALLY have some storage space to store everything so the house doesn't look so cluttered as it does now.
The garage, oh my, I love the double car garage. Especially since we have three vehicles and my convertible is stored during the winter. Well, at least it will be this year. The thing I love the most about the garage, besides the fact that there are built in storage shelves so our camping gear and stuff doesn't have to take up all of the storage in the main house, is the eight foot ceilings. That means that I have room to put up my backdrops so I can literally have my studio at home (no more wishing the money for studio time). Now, I just need to find a space to keep all of my lights.
All in all, we are pretty excited that we will be moving in a month and a half. YIPPIE!!! A bonus is also the commute is about the same time as what I do now.
Oh! I neglected to mention the best part of all, the mortgage payments are a few hundred less than what we are paying right now for our townhouse rental in Barrhaven.
Although, I am painfully aware of the things that can go wrong with the purchase of a house, I only hope that things start to go wrong AFTER we have saved up a little bit of money. Right now, my savings account has been tapped dry thanks to the downpayment.*sigh*
Anyway, I won't let that reality get me down, it is time to get packing!
