Terrific!

The news came home from school on Tuesday that my Lil' Man is to receive a Terrific Kid award. Awesome!


Although before Tuesday I must admit I didn't think too kindly about the Terrific Kid program. I know children who have received the "award" because their parents bitch and complained that other kids were getting it and theirs was not. What a great system of earning things based on merit right?

Typically children earn the Terrific Kid award by being thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, inclusive, friendly, inquisitive and capable. When I read the Kiwanis website about the Terrific Kid award I definitely saw why my son was selected(nope, not biased at all).

Now, to be honest, I didn't think that my son would ever win an award at school. I was a terrible student but his father was not. My son takes after me in so many ways, good and bad, I have been hoping since last year that he has his dads concentration when it comes to school.

This kid of mine wants to be an Engineer and I keep telling him that if he wants to be an Engineer that he has to really pay attention and apply himself in school and that grades matter. I just hope he remembers what I drill into his head weekly. Do you think weekly is too much or not enough?
