This weekend we got our bikes ready for summer. I had mine in the basement over the winter. I brought it up to the living room to use the small hand pump to put some air in the tires. Lil' Man wanted to help.
The bike was close to the stairs and the railing. I didn't want him to fall so I said I would go over and help him.
Me: Hang on a sec. I will come over to you to help.
Lil Man: You can't make it.
Me: Why not? There is plenty of room.
Lil' Man: Because your too...F. A. T.
Me: What?!? There is plenty of room.
Lil' Man: No there isn't. Your bum won't fit.
I then went to go over and lo and behold, he was correct. My butt was too big to fit.
I try to raise him to be honest all of the time even if the truth hurts someone. I think that being honest to people and to yourself is one of the best fundamental values to have but this weekend, raising my son bit me in the ass.
I think my next lesson to teach my son will be how to tell someone the truth nicely so it doesn't seem so mean.
How do you deal with your children when your lessons bite you in your butt?
